Public Holiday on 14th May 2018 is declared by WB Govt for West Bengal Panchayat Elections. West Bengal Panchat Elections 2018 will be held on 14.05.2018 in 20 districts Alipurduar, Bankura, Birbhum, Cooch Behar, Dakshin Dinajpur, Hooghly, Howrah, Jalpaiguri, Jhargram, Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, Paschim Bardhaman, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Medinipur, Purba Bardhaman, Purulia, South 24 Parganas, and Uttar Dinajpur.

All State Government Offices including Educational Institutions, State Government Undertakings, Corporations, Boards, Statutory and Local Bodies and other Parastatals under West Bengal State Government situated within the districts excepting those within the municipal area shall remain closed on the 14th May 2018 so that every employee is able to exercise his/her right to franchise in the West Bengal Panchayat Elections 2018.

In case the date of poll is a working day for any office under Central Government or any other establishment within the concerned district, the employees working on those offices and establishments and who are voters to the elections shall be permitted to cast their votes by way of granting special leave. Department of Finance, Govt of West Bengal has released Circular No. 2739-F(P2) Dated 27th April 2018 regarding Public Holiday on 14th May 2018 for West Bengal Panchayat Elections 2018.

Public Holiday on 14th May 2018 for West Bengal Panchayat ElectionsPanchayat Elections in West Bengal will be held on the 14th May 2018 in a single phase. Several Panchayats have already been won unanimously by the ruling party Trinamool Congress Party. BJP, Congress, CPI, CPI(M) are the other main political parties in West Bengal. Counting of Votes will be held on the 17th of May 2018. The re polling is scheduled to be held on 16th May 2018 as and where required. The opposition parties claimed that their candidates failed to submit nomination papers, as they are unable to reach the office of SDO and BDO to file papers due to violence in the state. SEC had allowed 9 candidates to file their nominations through WhatsApp. This is the first time in India that nominations have been filed through WhatsApp.

In West Bengal, there are, at present, 825 Zilla Parishad constituencies spread over 20 Zilla Parishads and 1 Mahakuma Parishad, 9240 Panchayat Samiti constituencies in 341 Panchayat Samitis and 48751 Gram Panchayat Constituencies in 3354 Gram Panchayats. There are 7 Municipal Corporations and 119 Municipalities in West Bengal. About 58,000 polling booths have been set up for the smooth conduct of West Bengal Panchayat Elections 2018. Public Holiday on 14th May 2018 was also announced for these elections.

Earlier 3 phase elections were announced by the commission for West Bengal Panchayat Elections 2018. Counting was scheduled to be held on the 8th of May 2018. But, Later State Election Commission has published revised dates for West Bengal Panchayat Elections 2018. Now Elections are scheduled to be held in a single phase.
