International Yoga Day 21st June 2015 @Rajpath and Worldwide

International Yoga Day is being celebrated on the 21st June 2015 World wide. P.M Narendra Modi will be starting World Yoga Day at 6.40am on 21.06.2015 at Rajpath, Delhi. About 35000 Central Govt Employees and foreign delegates are expected to participate in this mega International Yoga Day event. Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy,Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), Government of India is the Nodal Agency to coordinate various activities for the celebration of International Yoga Day.

Guinness World Record will likely be achieved today for the record of Largest Yoga Demonstration at a single venue. Baba Ramdev will be present there at Rajpath to exhibit asanas, which will be projected through 28 big screens in the capital today. Around 80-100 foreigners from around 50 countries are also expected to take part in the exercises on the occasion of International Yoga Day.

Earlier June 21 was declared as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11th 2014 by resolution 69/131. In suggesting June 21, which is the Summer Solstice, as the International Day of Yoga, India’s Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi had said that the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world. As a result International Yoga Day 2015 is being celebrated around the world on the 21st June 2015. Around 45000 Yoga practitioners from Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar pioneered by Baba Ramdev would demonstrate Yoga at various places across the world. Millions of people are expected to take part in this event world wide.

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Today International Yoga Day is being celebrated in about 177 countries world wide. It is expected that about 200 crore people from all parts of world will take participate in this event. International Yoga Day aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga. Many activities have been arranged through out the world today to observe World Yoga Day on 21.06.2015
